Reaching Out .... The Power of Social Media - INCLUDING UPDATE
The Ball is SOLD OUT and I need to source interesting/original prizes for the fundraising activities - I needed to "get my thinking cap on"
A while ago I attended a ladies networking meeting, set up by The Inspire Network (great name). The event was informal and included a presentation on social media by one of their members. I was impressed by the group and their willingness to help one another, so I requested to join their Facebook group.
I must admit I have not taken part in many discussions however in 2013 I was "let down" by a cake maker. I asked the Inspire Network for advice and recommendations. These were very quickly provided and I contacted Helena Borthwick-Hill. Helena produced some wonderful cakes which advertised our company logo.
So, what better place to start looking for prizes than the Inspire Network - in return their business/products will be viewed by 290 local business people based in the North East and they will be acknowledged in all promotional material (and this blog) before and after the Ball.
I have been overwhelmed by the response so far, and I would like to thank those small businesses who have offered prizes by thanking them and sharing their details.
Susan Smalley - Owner at Susan Smalley Intuitive Life Coach, Spiritualist Medium & Reiki Healer
Gillian Lewis - Spectrum Coaching and Consultancy - Gillian is donating a 2 hour Body Shape Workshop for 4
Lynn Huggins-Cooper - Faerie Realms - a Faerie and Signed books
Sally Peck - Jewellery
Debbie Stogden - Debbie Stogden Photography - a photography workshop for 2
Vicky Shield - Purple Owl Gifts - personalised word art
Sandra Hope - Essential Thyme - one hour treatment
Thanks again ladies, great prizes. I'm sure our guests will be thrilled!
Since writing this original post I do have some other ladies that I need to thank:
Helena Borthwick-Hill - Helena has donated a website audit
Beverly Sherratt of Profectus 4 People - management development for a team of senior leaders and managers or a 1;1 coaching session for 4 people
...and all of this from one post on Inspire Network! THANKS!

| The Terrace at Wynyard Hall |
The ball which is held every two years will raise much needed funds for St Teresa's Hospice, The County Durham Foundation and smaller local charities, where a little money can make a big difference.
It has been difficult to inform people that there are no further tables available. We do so appreciate the support. Maybe we need to hold the ball every year to keep everyone happy? However, as much as I enjoy organising the ball I'm not sure I could manage the work load every year!
We have 293 guests consisting of successful local business people and their friends, colleagues and family. We will be offering a fantastic evening of food and entertainment.
Guest numbers have reached maximum capacity for the venue, Wynyard Hall, Tees Valley. Our guests virtually have sole use of this fantastic hotel. Fingers crossed that the weather is good and we can make use of the terrace overlooking the lake.
As always we're looking for prize donations for the fundraising activities taking place on the evening. Local businesses have been very supportive, below are a few of the donations:
- Karting for 6 from Teesside Karting
- Meal cooked in your own home - Truffles Restaurant, Darlington
- Signed Middlesbrough Football - Middlebrough Football Club
- Family Tree Top Adventue - Beamish Wild
- Sunday Lunch for 4 - Kings Hotel
- Ghost Tour - Chillingham Castle
- Tickets for various events - Durham Cathedral
- Photographic Portrait Session - www.michellefowler.co.uk
- Afternoon Tea for Two - Wynyard Hall
- 2 Cases of Wine - Neighbours Cleaning
Strange, wierd, wonderful, money can't buy prizes would be ideal :)

More Donations Gratefully Accepted!!!
Our main charity for 2012 is The Soldiers' Charity - a charity committed to raising funds to provide lifetime support to soldiers, ex soldiers and their families. We will also raise funds for St Teresa's Hospice and again smaller local charities.
So, thank you to:
S G Petch New & Used Car Dealership are providing an auction prize of a luxury car for the weekend - a Peugeot RCZ or a Hyundai Veloster. All the winner needs now is a luxury break to go with it - perhaps the prize of a stay at Chillingham Castle in Northumberland, what more could you ask for?
Local businesses have also been generous with donations of wine, which is great as we will have a wine or water stall. We supply the water!! So thanks to Northumbria Water & Property Solutions (very apt for this particular fundraising game) and Neighbours Cleaning for their contributions.
The Latimer Hinks Ball is obviously very well liked as we now only have 4 tables left to sell! We originally started with 27 - and the ball is not until the 18th May!
In order to raise "loads of money" for the charities we need prizes for our various fundraising mechanisms.
So, please show your support - if you'd like to donate a prize/experience...whatever..simply call me, Andrea Tobin 01325 341507 or email at@latimerhinks.co.uk
All donations will be acknowledged via the internet, throughout the evening and via associated publicity material.

Apologies for the delay...

Latimer Hinks Charity Ball - Dare I say it - we're nearly fully organised!
I do hope not. So far I have booked a band and disco - HUGE. They look like great fun and have played for the likes of Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz!
As we have 275 guests I have booked two magicians (both have very different styles) to ensure that every table is entertained as least once.
The Casino, White Rose was recommended by St Teresa's Hospice (they have used them for the past 14 years!)
Our photographer, Keith Blundy came along to the ball in 2009 to document the start of the ball. This time around I want Keith to capture the fun and enjoyment as well as the entertainment. He is therefore going to be around for much of the evening.
The tombola will be manned by a couple of volunteers from St Teresa's (we're very, very grateful) and Latimer Hinks people throughout the evening.
I've also roped in various people from Latimers to help with the auction. Our auctioneer will be Graham Robb of Recognition.
And of course HSBC representatives will help with the Backward Bingo (HSBC will be matching £1 for £1 up to £1500)
Phew - it think it's all wrapped up!
Thanks to:
Band - HUGE
Magicians - Mike Driver, Dillinger
Casino - White Rose Casino
Photographer - Keith Blundy
Auctioneer - Graham Robb

The Charity Ball Donations Keep Rolling In

Wednesday, 10 March 2010
Great News! The Latimer Hinks Ball is Virtually a SELLOUT!
The recession of 2009 took its toll on many local charity events. Balls were cancelled due to lack of guest numbers, donations for raffle and auction prizes rapidly dwindled....BUT I can now report that the Latimer Hinks Charity Ball should be a resounding success!
Almost ten weeks to go (May 21st) and only 20 tickets remaining out of a total of 270! Three of the companies taking tables decided to take two tables! Is this a sign that the recession is finally over?
I have also received a great number of donations:
- A £500 Pandora Bracelet from Bramwell Jewellers (already made up, but the winner can change charms/colours etc to suit)
- 10 bottles of champagne from Northumbria Water
- £400 worth of tooth whitening or facial aesthetics (botox to you and I) from Elliott McCarthy Dental Care
- A 12 day Spa Membership (over a year) from Headlam Hall Hotel
- Rounds of golf from 2 local golf courses in Darlington - Stressholme and Blackwell
- A meal for 4 at Stressholme, tickets for the theatre, signed Middlesbrough Football..... the list goes on - and i will update the list regularly
The Latimer Hinks Ball is in aid of Help for Heroes and St Teresa's Hospice (Darlington), plus smaller local charities.
Our thanks also go to HSBC for matching £1 for £1 up to £1500.
It should be a GREAT night - if you would like to donate a prize or an experience - a holiday, a weekend break, something money can't buy.... please feel free to contact me

Latimer Hinks Charity Ball - Donations and Relationship Building!
Every two years Latimer Hinks organise a charity ball and this year it is to be held once again magnificent Wynyard Hall, Tees Valley on May 21st 2010.
I can hardly believe it's been two years since the last ball!
The 2008 Ball raised £10,000 and we would like to think that we can increase the amount we pass on to the charities who, like so many, have been affected by the economic downturn.
For 2010 our main charity is going to be “Help for Heroes”. No-one can fail to be impressed by the courage of the armed forces and we feel that “Help for Heroes” and all that the charity does should be supported. We will also still be supporting a number of local, smaller charities including St Teresa’s Hospice..
In 2008 we raised nearly £10,000 and intend to dramatically increase the figure for 2010
How?
1) HSBC have very kindly offered to match £ for £ monies raised on a fundraising menchanism (up to £1500). Their generosity is greatly appreciated.
2) A Charity Auction. If you feel you could donate an auction prize - perhaps a weekend break, use of a luxury car, a holiday.... etc etc we would of course be extremely grateful AND your support will be promoted in all literature, press releases, blogs (where we can also direct people to your website). We have already received a donation of tooth whitening or facial aesthetics (botox to you and I) from Elliott McCarthy Dental Care- thank you.
3) Tombola. Everyone enjoys a tombola, it's a great fundraiser and anyone can take part. Donations, again, would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: Our thanks go to Compugift for supplying a number of quality items for the tombola - your help and support is gratefully acknowledged!
4) Backward Bingo. Fun game, everyone can take part. Guest can purchase a bingo ticket, numbers are called out. If your numbers are among those called, you sit down. Last three standing win a prize.
5) Networking Contacts. Hopefully I can call on contacts made throughout the year through networking events in the hope that they will support/sponsor the ball. Mike Challands of MT Print has also offered to provide the design and print of tickets, program etc in return for a few tickets to the ball! Mike will benefit from exposure to around 300 high net worth business representatives at the event and will obviously have his quality print work on show and acknowledged AND we can pass the money saved on print to the charities.
This is what relationship building/networking is all about - we don't necessarily need to give business on every occasion but we can provide opportunities to expose new contacts to our networks.
If anyone reading this would be interested in sponsoring/supporting the charity ball, please let me know.
If you or your business would like exposure/ackowledgement at this prestigious black tie event, talk to me (you can use comments) and i will call you to discuss suggestions further.
Don't forget it's all for good causes!

Photoshoots & Weather - they don't mix!

It's been said, never work with children or animals - well i can certainly say never try for a dry/sunny photoshoot in July in the UK - it ain't gonna happen!
I had to arrange a photo shoot with three charities, a bank and solicitor from Latimer Hinks in order to present money raised from the Latimer Hinks Charity Ball
I thought it would be ideal to hold the shoot outside Wynyard Hall - fabulous building.
When we arrived, the heavens opened. So we took the opportunity to take a few pics inside.
Then, the rain stopped so all 7 of us traipsed outside. We'd just managed to get the correct pose when again the heavens opened - a quick dash back in and the rain stopped.
We thought we'd give it one more try, by this point we were looking quite bedraggled (everyone took it in good spirit) - and hey presto out popped the sun. We dashed to position and finally managed to get an outside photo. (That's me in the front, i always manage to get the silly posing jobs!)
